Hustle Spotlight - Tony Yee of 87 Movers

Meet Tony Yee, Owner of 87 Movers in Las Vegas, Nevada

When Tony Yee got into the moving industry, it wasn’t part of a long-term corporate plan.

He says, I got fired from my last job and jumped in without a clue in 2020.

From there, he knew one thing for sure: he didn’t want to go back to working for someone else. “I didn't, I just knew I didn't want to work for someone anymore. Now I am building a business that will outlast me.”

Today, that decision has turned into 87 Movers Las Vegas, a growing moving company serving Las Vegas and the surrounding communities.

Those first months weren’t glamorous. Tony describes them as:

Lots of learning mistakes, like hiring a guy with 17 years who claims he knows it all, not doing background and reference checks, hiring people with attendance issues, getting stood up because we didn't take a deposit, not charging enough.”

Moving Services Offered by 87 Movers Las Vegas

87 Movers Las Vegas currently offers:

In practical terms, that means they handle everything from standard local residential moves to labor-only help, long-distance jobs, and commercial work. Their goal is to be the go-to team when a family or business in Las Vegas needs a reliable, well-planned move.

Tony says the three things he really wants the company to be known for are:

  • Favorite movers of locals and athletes

  • Social media collaborators

  • Logistics experts

Their ideal customer profile is simple and clear: families living in homes valued at $400K+.

Serving Las Vegas and the Surrounding Areas

The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, but their crews stay busy across a wider footprint, including:

Las Vegas, Summerlin, Paradise, Sloan Canyon, and Pahrump.

Moving in Southern Nevada comes with its own twist. As Tony puts it:

Hot as hell down here in Vegas so not everyone can hang.

How 87 Movers Las Vegas Runs the Operation

Today, the company runs on 2 trucks and 8 guys.

Training is treated as a serious investment, not an afterthought:

“Online orientation, investing in training on slow days, and on-the-site training with KPIs.”

When you work with 87 Movers Las Vegas, a 5-star experience isn’t about flashy slogans—it’s about the details:

“We notice customers speak about the little things. I believe that’s the secret. The movers who are uplifting them, listening to them, and the movers that act like great guests in a home are the ones who will have customers who give us a 5-star review and refer all their friends and family.”

One story in particular captures what the company is all about:

“A repeat customer at the Tanager luxury condos hired us again, and she was dealing with some problems in life we didn’t know about. We just worked hard and were nice to her. She left us a great review and cried because we helped her and that felt very good.”

Partnerships and Community

Relationships and networking are a big part of how Tony builds the business:

“Realtors are key, I virtually knock doors with sports agents, and I'm in BNI and Moving Army.”

Goals and What’s Next

Over the next few years, Tony is focused on infrastructure and scaling smart:

  • Short-term goal: secure warehouse space

  • Growth goal: add another truck—they’re actively in the market

At a brand level, he wants people to think of 87 Movers as:

“A reliable service who cares about good service and treats families well, making them into loyal fans.”

The Person Behind the Brand

Outside of running a moving company, Tony’s not just living on the truck. He enjoys:

“Watching sports, playing chess, sports betting, working out, and date nights with the other owner.”

There’s also a side of the team that most customers never see:

“We get the same pool of movers all the other moving companies get, but we actually care about training them if they are coachable—which is more important than experience.”

Tony’s Advice for Other Moving Company Owners

If someone in another city told Tony they were thinking about launching a moving company, here’s what he’d tell them:

“Get onto some jobs, make sure you want to do this for a living. This is hard work, you will bleed, sweat, and cry. When going through pain, it's your mind that will either bring you pain or pleasure and sometimes it will be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on how you manage the pain with your goals and the consequences of your actions even if you don't know what they are.”

One major mistake he’d warn new owners about:

“Don't start social media later. It should start on day one! People want the raw-raw stuff. Also, years later the people that will work with you want to look back and see the process you went through. It takes years to build community on social media and you'll be surprised who you will become the hero of.”

And one thing he did right early that helped the company grow:

“Listen to a lot of audiobooks.”

What 87 Movers Las Vegas Is Best At

If you’re planning a move in the Las Vegas area, Tony says 87 Movers is especially strong at:

Local residential moves that have game plans where we came in person or video for an estimation.”

They’re also proud of how they show up online and in the community:

“Reliable service who cares about a good service and treats the family well making them into loyal fans.”

And Tony adds:

We are the number 1 Nevada movers on social media.
